As Chinese universities begin to send out admission letters to new students, the novel ideas and designs behind this year's admission letters have attracted widespread attention.
Photo shows the admission letter of Peking University, which has an ancient-style board on the center of the inside page. Three Chinese characters "Da Xue Tang" are inscribed on the board, which represent the original name of the university.
Besides the admission letter, Peking University also sent out seven letters written by the university's seven "freshmen" from different years ranging from 1958 to 2010. The chosen seven wrote of their pursuits and gains while studying at university.
The front page of the letter shows the emblem of the university and a logo designed for the 100th anniversary of the university, which was officially founded in 1919.
Alongside the admission letter, the university sent each new student a souvenir edition card sleeve commemorating the 100th anniversary. On the wristband, it says, "Once in a century, wait for you in Nankai University."
Jiangnan University in Wuxi City, east China's Jiangsu Province, sent each of its new students a set of customized woodcuts together with the admission letter. The four pieces feature a library, a bridge, a statue of an immortal Asian giant softshell turtle, and the north gate of the university, which are all famous landmarks.
Tianjin University has adopted AR technologies in its admission letter this year. After scanning the picture of the original building of the university printed on the cover of the admission letter with a mobile phone, a 3D cartoon image of the university's artificial intelligence (AI) news anchor Hai Xiao Tang appears on the screen, to brief people on Tianjin University.
Tianjin University's smart news anchor Hai Xiao Tang is the first of its kind in Chinese universities. It can learn things by itself and read texts, just like a professional news anchor. Also, Tianjin University sent new students unique gifts together with the admission letter, such as the university's emblem, a book about the university's history, bookmarks, and even a hand-drawn map.
Zhejiang A&F University
Zhejiang A&F University in Hangzhou, capital of east China's Zhejiang Province, sent new students environmentally-friendly admission letters made of sliced bamboo veneer, which is the fruit of the university's self-developed new technology of deep bamboo processing.
Containing state of the art technology, this year's admission letter is lighter and thinner than those of previous years. The thickness of the admission letter is equivalent to four pieces of regular A4 paper. As the paper was processed using techniques including hot pressing and antisepsis, it is pliable and sturdy, and can also be rolled into a scroll.
Beijing Forestry University
Beijing Forestry University's admission letter is designed around the theme of "mankind in nature." There are four types of admission letter, each featuring a picture symbolizing the message that humanity and nature live in a community of shared life.
